Depending on the repositories you have setup, you may not be able to
get the mp3 pluing from yum, as it is not in the normal Fedora-Extras.

I just installed that rpm from rpm.pbone.net, and XMMS started working. HOWEBER, IT IS MUTE! I can see the graphic equalizer, the title of the music, and the time changing, but NO sound. What am I missing now?
It seems like we are almost there.
