is your device covered by that module, e.g. does it exist? (/dev/....)
is the modem switched on?
if its a pci onboard something, try lspci
if its an usb (i dont know if fc has that script) try: lsusb
if its pcmcia.... lspcmcia
if the device doesnt exist, but everything is connected, try makedevices or mkdevices or whats it called these days...
