Why? 3- then the same problem as yours and strange behaviour coming from yum and rpm: I tried to uninstall conflicting packages with rpm -e but often the answer of rpm was: package xxxxx identifies many packages, as if the i386 and the x64 packages were both installed (I think that the problem is here). I had to use rpm -e --allmatches to murder these packages. 4- another solution I used to solve this problem was to build an "exclude list" in yum.conf then to suppress gradualy this list after the update was completed without error messages for other packages. And it worked.... Anyway, I'am sure that there many packages from both i386 an x64 distro are installed on my machine (glibc-devel for instance...) I don't know if it is correct and what kind of problems will occur later! I don't know too how to clean the system. If someone from development team could help us, it will be great. Thank you.
