This seems to be related to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=130024 and http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/4/14/127 , which was fixed (upstream, at least) by at least kernel 2.6.13, but would be unlikely to have been in the lauch Fedora kernel.
