Others have pointed out the need for double the size of your Inbox if you use mbox format. The canonical way to deal with it with UW-IMAP is likely also the same solution for dovecot, but check the dovecot site/wiki/list to confirm: Use a separate partition for the temporary file, so that the regular storage quota doesn't apply to it.
