Any ideas?
I have only one idea and it may not be correct. When putting Linux on
a machine with a SATA drive I found I had to change the SATA drive
configuration in the BIOS. I can't remember which option I chose but
it would be easy to try a different option for SATA (my BIOS had
three) and see what happens.
The system ether has same problem or will not boot at all. Depending

When the initial installation boot screen comes up, try entering some
gibberish then hit enter: 'foo <enter>'
Then hit enter again to boot normally.
If that doesn't work, reboot and try the gibberish line again, and enter
'linux pci=nosort' the second time. I have a similar system that will
only boot into Linux with the 'pci=nosort' line. If this works, you may
want to add this to your grub.conf file.
