OOo templates directory acting funny

I'm having trouble getting OOo to behave when it comes to finding
templates in the default templates directory. This is FC4 using all
the standard packages from typical repos.

My templates directory is set to

~/.openoffice.org2.0/user/template

when I ls the subdirectory 'letter,' I get

[matt@matt]/% ls -l ~/.openoffice.org2.0/user/template/letter
total 248
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 31760 Oct 27 16:03 bus-elegant_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 32095 Oct 27 16:03 bus-modern_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 31801 Oct 27 16:03 bus-office_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 13534 Oct 27 16:03 off-elegant_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 13161 Oct 27 16:03 off-modern_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 12792 Oct 27 16:03 off-office_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 47624 Oct 27 16:03 pri-bottle_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 23528 Oct 27 16:03 pri-mail_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 18770 Oct 27 16:03 pri-marine_l.ott
-rw-r--r-- 1 matt matt 11801 Oct 27 16:03 pri-redline_l.ott

In other words, there are 10 templates in there, and I have rw access
to all of them. But when I go to File--New--Templates and Documents
and click on "Templates," and go into the "letter" directory, I see
this:

Bottle
Mail
Marine
Red Line

In other words, the first six are missing. Is this a bug or is there
something silly I'm not seeing?
