Now, I have MS Windows installed on a partition of hda, but still getting:

root@1[knoppix]# grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/hdc1/boot/ /dev/hda
/dev/hda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.
root@1[knoppix]#

This nightmare seems to be endless!... :-)
