So shell I worry about it or do I need to do some countermeasures?

If someone can point me in the right direction what to do and what

It's good to have good password practices, as well as disable the root ssh
login. Users requiring root permissions and capabilities should login as
a regular user and su to root...
In terms of a "counter-measure" or some level of defense against the
attacks, I'm fond of denyHosts

Thanks to everyone who responded to my reply.
I closed ssh for root, checked pws and installed denyhosts running as a
cronjob regularly which is really enough for me.
