There are several effective methods. Probably the simplest method is
to find a long board that is wide enough to fit the jar on, and to fix
it on an axis. The height of the axis should be about one fourth the
length of the board. A 'launch surface' made of friction material is
recomended if you want the jar to lauch upwards. Otherwise,
centrifical force causes the jar to slip outward and leave the board
prematurly.

I also recomend the use of plastic peanut butter jars. Their
lightweight construction lets them reach amazing heights, and they
don't break.
