Depending on what all you are having Samba do, the checklist
could be long and convoluted.

The /etc/samba/smb.conf file will have a list of what directory
structures are shared and what the share name is for these.  Since you
did not mention this in the post, make sure you have something shared.

Also, samba uses one of several methods to validate access to the
files on the Linux box.  It can be the primary domain controller (PDC)
for your network; It can use some other existing PDC; etc.

I suggest you cd to /var/log/samba and run "tail -f smbd.log" and then
try the access from the windows box.  If the Linux box does not show
up in the browse list of network neighborhood, go to Start->Run and
enter "\\your_linux_node" where your_linux_node is replaced by whatever
is in the value you specified in the "netbiosname = " line on the
smb.conf file.  The messages in the smbd.log file should give you a
clue as to what is going wrong.
