adaptec too !!!
I use the Adaptec 21610SA SATA RAID (150 MB/s)
16 x S-ATA 150Mb/s not bad :)
With FC4 and aacraid native drivers  (Software Raid)

3ware controllers have good driver support.

However, a software raid will perform very close to a hardware one and
is generally more flexible and at times, more reliable.
