Read your grub.conf file, compare the current and previous entries.
Perhaps you've got something on the kernel line that now disables ACPI,
or is missing something that used to enable it.

For mine, I have to add acpi=force, because mine makes a silly
assumption about the age of the BIOS not supporting ACPI.
