eog MG_0289.JPGs works fine

eog IMG_0289.JPG starts the eog program, however, I get a small display
with no picture.

This works fine too. It appears the problem is case-sensitive with JPG.
The JPG files come from downloading them to a windows SMB share from a
digital camera.
I can write a perl script to change the file names, I just find it
odd that eog would care about this.
If I attempt to open a JPG file with nautilus by simply double clicking,
I get the message about opening such a file represents a security risk.

I'm using Fedora 3.
Can anyone explain why I cannot open a file using eog when the file has
an extension of ".jpg"? When I simply rename the file to any other
extesion, for example, .jpeg, or .jpgx, eog opens the file just file.
Works fine here, running FC3, and using eog to open a file with
extension ".jpg". Does eog generate any error?
Can you run "file" on the jpg and post the results? The one I tried was:
$ file corker2.jpg
corker2.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01
$ eog corker2.jpg
