Specialist Requested

Hi all

I am wondering where I can find a specialist in Xine, Alsa, and RedHat Fedora
for the problem seems to be somewhere in the way those three interact.

If you know of such a specialist on another mailing list, or site, please let
me know.

This is the problem I'm facing

I have a soundcard with digital output which is connected to a Dolby Surround
Decoder by means of a coaxial cable that costs $30.

Sound was working and I could hear system sounds and amaroK playing my
favorite songs.

When I put on a dvd in xine, the sound was in 5.1 surround stereo while muting
the system sounds (and amaroK). This muting and unmuting was done
automatically by xine (?)

At one point a damaged dvd caused xine to hang and I killed it. At which
point sound no longer worked, except when putting on a dvd in xine. Then
sound does work in 5.1

A warm reboot didn't solve anything and neither did a cold one. The sound
decoder was rebooted as well.

Now the only way for me to get system sounds and amaroK is by running an
analog cable between the speaker-out and the analog-in of the decoder.

It seems to me that the digital output is somehow blocked in SPDIF mode and
playing with the mixer settings didn't solve this problem.

Does anyone reckognize this problem.

With kind regards

Andy
