qt-config and/or (possibly) simply running any qt/kde application.

This is
causing me strange problems with qt apps crashing until that file is
generated.

The mere existence (or not) of that file shouldn't be causing crashes.Could you post more details about what you're seeing? You may also wantto submit crash bug reports to fedora/redhat at:

http://bugzilla.redhat.com/
