Hopefully you have setup sendmail to "do the right thing"
By default, I doubt it'd work. You'd probably be sending from a mail
account named after your own machine (without a real domain name), and
that won't go through the outside mail servers.
Using "mail" to send mail out of your PC really does require you to
carefully set up sendmail.
