If you're lucky enough that it uses sata_promise for the on-board controller, and sata_tx4 for the PCI controller, then you could use something in /etc/modprobe.conf like alias scsi_hostadapter0 sata_promise alias scsi_hostadapter1 sata_tx4 and then re-run "mkinitrd" to regenerate the /boot/...img file so that the modules get loaded in the above order. Then it'd detect the drives on the on-board controller first. But if both controllers are handled by the same kernel module, then maybe changing the BIOS order, as someone else suggested, will determine which PCI device gets detected first. Stuart Levy
