Do not update to the latest xorg-x11 version. There is a problem within
the new packages. I have a gx270 w/ the same graphics card, but did not
upgrade to the new version of X yet. The system works great without the
upgrade.
There is an option which you can add to the xorg.conf file that may
help. Add option "NoAccel" to the section that references your video
driver "i810". I don't know if this will work, but it sounds similar to
an old problem with the Intel "i810" driver refresh problem.

What latest version are you referring to? I updated only 3 days ago
and have had no problem.
The problem seems to be narrowed down to Intel 830 and above video
cards. The problem seems to happen on FC3 and FC4 upgrades of X. I
personally tried out the upgraded xorg-x11 on an FC3 system with an
Intel 815 and did not note any problems, evan after a reboot to set
everything fresh. I'm upgrading the system to FC4 to see if the FC4
upgraded X works still or the problem is specific to Intel video cards
from Intel 810 up to the better video cards. I'm guessing that the 810
and 815 chipsets are immune to the breakage and that the higher order
cards will be broken.
A list of current bugs for this upgrade of X are below.
