I installed hplip but the effect is still the same. That is, the windows application would just hang. For example, when I am printing from Notepad, a dialog box would pop up saying "Now printing test.txt Page 1" and it stays up until I kill Notepad.
I took a look at the spool at /var/spool/samba and there is indeed an empty file, smbprn.00002363.tPw15f.
