any idea someone? i was reading up a lot on this error on other
forums, but it mostly appears when the hard drive support breaks while
compiling a new kernel or such.
with me its right from the install dvd. i dont even see the installer.
i also tried the option root=/dev/hdc but it didnt changed anything.

Subject: newbie cant install fedora
===8<==============Original message text===============
Hello list,
first post here.:)
i downloaded the fedora core4 iso, burned the dvd and
try to install linux.
for some reason linux doesnt boot into the installer but instead gives
me a kernel panic error:
kernel panic not synching: VFS: unable to mount root FS to unknown
block (3,2)
then flowwed by screens full of numbers and codes.
i use a opteron246 system with 2gb ram, QuadroFX1000 and for this
purpose a ide harddisk.
on this harddisk is a installation of suse linux.
i tried the noprobe and acpi=off options at the promt (when it aks me
to hit enter to get to the graphical installer)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
