I'd like to install the FC4 glibc + gcc packages on my FC3 system. Is
this possible without destroying my existing installation? Any tips
will be appreciated.

There's a very easy way to figure this out.

Take the glibc rpm, and try running “rpm -i”.

If rpm chews through it and installs it without complaining, you're good to
go. if rpm refuses to install it due to some conflict, it ain't gonna work.

Assuming that the glibc rpm got installed without errors, your next step is
to try to run “rpm -U” for the gcc package. You definitely cannot have both
versions installed, so the only thing you can try to do is an upgrade.

Again, if “rpm -U” runs without errors, you're all set.
