Many people have turned it off through gnome or kde volume controls and still got the sound. Seems to be a bug. What does seem to work for many is by turning it off in alsamixer: Try running alsamixer <RET> on the command line; Your terminal will fill with a coloured bargraph; Right key about 12 bars to the IEC958 bar and type M for mute (not 0); Some people have turned every other bar off by hand for good measure; Dont' forget to turn the Master etc. back on -- but keep it to a minimum number to start with; finish with a Ctrl-c. Try your sound now. Other than that there is Summary: distorted sound with es1371 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=161279 After that it gets complicated. Regards Bill
