Since installing FC4, /dev/hda* has group disk and group permissions
"r--". This breaks raw disk access in VMware. Changing group permission
to "rw-" solves that problem, but the change is not preserved across
boots.
Just recently, /dev/st0* has also become "r--" (also in group disk). I
don't recall exactly what package I installed about a week ago that might
have affected this. Before last week, amanda worked fine. But since
then, amdump complains that my tape is not writable. Changing group
permissions on /dev/st0* to "rw-" solves this issue, but the change is not
preserved across reboots.
It looks like this is set in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules, but udev
hasn't been updated recently. What package affected these permissions for
my tapes? What's the best way to fix them permanently?
TIA.
