It can help to explicitly set in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

ChipID 0x5D57
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,AUTO"

Check which driver is set up in xorg.conf.

for Broadcom chipsets your nearly always need something to use the
Windows® drivers on Linux: a) open source ndiswrapper b) or pay for
driverloader. It matter which chip is used exactly. Can be found out
running "/sbin/lspci".
