Hi all (yet again - this has been quite a day, hasn't it),
I see that 'kword' or 'koffice' is not longer a part of FC4, but hasn't
made it into the Extras yet. I used 'kword' to open and pick the pieces
out of PDF files (ie grab and save the pictures and turn save the text),
so what I can use in FC4 to do that ?
I use: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdftohtml/
html to text is simple with 'lynx -dump'
Why are certain KDE packages removed from FC? Kword is GPL, and does
not violate any copyright issues (mp3,..), so why remove it? There are
other programs that I feel are 'missing' as well.
I believe it's an on-going process to remove packages that provide
duplicate functionality from Core and make them available in Extras
instead (thus making FC a smaller download). fedora-devel-list is
probably the place to debate which of multiple office-type packages
should remain in Core and which should go to Extras.
As for the absence of these packages from Extras, that's because nobody
has yet volunteered to maintain them there and get them imported/built yet.
