Did you fixed it?
You check etc/hosts file and all local configuration?

still without success daniel,
/etc/hosts files are ok on all the 3 boxes.
i also setup dns on the server and now i don't have routing errors. see my previous post.
but still no mail between mbgandalf <> mbfrodo <> mbns2 (server)
so what do you propose next?
