chmod 700 jdk-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin
./jdk-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin
su
chown 0:0 jdk1.5.0_04/ -R
exit
export JAVA_HOME=/home/winston/jdk1.5.0_04/
works perfectly
