I'm trying to do a fesh FC4 install (formatting all filesystems) and it keeps aborting halfway through, right after the install image is copied and before it starts installing all my selected packages (I briefly see the "installing packages.." message). The graphical installer then immediately aborts back to the text console, which is left displaying something like: --- CUT --- Attempting to start native X server Waiting for X server to start...log located in /tmp/X.log 1...2...3...4...5.... X server started successfully. Starting graphical installation... install exited abnormally sending termination signals...done ... you may safely reboot your system --- END --- After rebooting using the rescue disk, I can see all the filesystems mounted under /mnt/sysimage, although the sets of files are different each time (presumably because no sync flush occured?). I can never find any useful log files. /root/install.log is either 0-length or the last entry says it successfully installed the kernel package. There is never any /tmp/X.log file. The system is a single CPU Athlon XP 3500+. I'm installing onto two Raptor 70GB SATA hard drives. The mobo uses the SiI3112A SATA chipsets; but it's in normal drive mode (non-RAID). Except for /boot, both drives are set up for a single LVM volume group and all filesystems are within that VG. There are no IDE hard drives. I can not seem to get the install to ever get to that part where it starts installing the individual packages. Is there anything I can do, or any sort of tracing or better logging I could enable? -- Deron Meranda
