Dave's note about the last update kernel seems to only be for FC4.

I posted the same bug some days ago. The problem is also with every
vanilla kernel as of 2.6.12-rc1. It works with acpi=off. Didn't get
any response from lkml.

I installed kernel-2.6.12-1.1434_FC5 from development (rawhide) and acpi
seems to work fine with this kernel. No warranties, but it works for me.
Previously, acpi worked poorly with a series of kernels post 1400_FC5
