Hi Mike, Looking in /etc/rc.sysinit, it appears that if you place: AUTOFSCK_DEF_CHECK=yes into /etc/sysconfig/autofsck then the behaviour of the default reboot mode in the case of an unclean shutdown toggles from "Press Y to force check" to "Press N to not force check", which sounds like the behaviour you are after.
