That's a very open-ended question. I'm sure many people have quite a few
ideas. Do you have any questions?

What can I do to get my system back up?
I'd try a rescue CD like Knoppix and do a chmod on /

What caused the I/O error?
Could be a full file system. Knoppix might be able to tell you whether
that occurred.

Why did / become RO?
I don't know.
