Worked after several mistakes on my HP laptop with the ATI 200M video. Both the rpm and the driver installer put some source code under /lib/modules/fglrx. Try running make in the first directory under there that has a Makefile. From what you have said, it will probably fail. If not, post again here. If it fails, why it fails will probably be informative. Post the output from make. If you made the same mistake I did, you probably got the wrong set of ATI drivers for your rig.
