FC4 Hangs up unexpectedly

Hi

I am chasing a problem with my FC4 box. It suddenly hangs up, totally frozen.
The mouse does not move, nothing on the monitor changes, even if I
ping it, i do not get any answer, the pings come back like it's not
there.

My system is a Celeron 1.3 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 30 MB IDE HDD

I t used to work fine with FC3, and then it started misbehaving. I
thought it was something in FC3 and I upgraded to FC4 but the problem
remains.

I tested the memory for one full day with Memtest86 without errors, I
also changed the CMOS battery, just in case.

With Fedora FC3, I had to ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0 to regain network
control after freezing up and rebooting. Now with FC4 it recovers
network capabilities automatically.

Looking forward to a bad HD, I booted with the rescue CD , did not
load the filesystem and performed an e2fsck -c on the Hard Disk. It
did not complain of any badblocks or any such thing.

How can I troubleshoot this? Given that the system freezes up,
nothing appears on the logs.

Peeking on the message log the most irregular thing I could see was this entry:

bloody logrotate: ALERT exited abnormally with [1]

but I am not even sure if it is related.

I just disassembled another socket 370 system when upgrading towards
an AMD64,so I have a full motherboard + 512MB RAM and another
processor, but I would rather not start switching components at
random, especially motherboards without any clue about what is
happening and why.

Thanks for any help

Javier
