The partition table (what's displayed by fdisk) doesn't actually have a clue what's on the partition -- what it thinks is completely independent of reality. You can change it with fdisk -- use the "l" command to list possible partition types, and "t" to change. ("83" is what you want.) You probably can even do this on a live system without losing data.
