if you change this to KDE you should be good to go :-)
No, this will change the desktop, not the login screen.
You'll have to set DISPLAYMANAGER to KDE in that file, as previously posted.
After changing this, one has to do a
telinit 3 telinit 5
to get kdm working, ctrl-alt-backspace is not enough.
This works for me in FC4.
