Just make sure no ethernet device is setting a default route so that the PPP device can not set it for itself. How? a) Make sure /etc/sysconfig/network contains no GATEWAY / GATEWAYDEV entry b) Make sure any /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX config file contains a GATEWAY setting either c) Make sure /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 contains a DEFROUTE=yes setting That would be a clean setting. I would bet you now have at least 2 default routes set which would be broken.
