Code Debugging, Application profiling

Hello, all -

Our development team is working on an application for our systems, and
everything is moving along quite well. However, at this point, I'd like
to start exploring how this program will react under load of any kind.
What I'd like to do, is watch the application in real-time, and be able
to read data values, such as memory usage, disk i/o, and network usage,
just to name a few. I want to know what this program is doing at any
point in time.

I've never done anything like this before, so if I'm looking for the
wrong thing, I would sure appreciate some help in looking for what I
really need.

I know I can use 'top', but I'd like something more detailed. /proc is
nice and very detailed, however, I'd liek to also tell network usage and
disk i/o. I've found a couple "open" code profilers out in the wild,
but nothing too impressive.

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks!
-dant
