Hmm, well a simple search on "grub x86_64" from the main page yeilds these two:

The first one shows the segfaulting behavior I'm seeing, and the
second discusses the src.rpm problem I'm seeing (though that one is
for RHEL4, it is the same behavior).  Actually, the first also
discusses the src.rpm linking problem.  So both problems are known and
"exist" by your definition :).  Maybe I'll comment on the first one. 
I'm still wondering why an update has not been released.  Perhaps they
are waiting on someone to say in bugzilla that the devel version
works.
