Hi everybody,

I am watching the list for some time now, but this is the first time I open a
topic. And it turned out to be off-topic... :-))

Short version:

Can anyone give me a recommendation about an editor that is as close as
possible (by look, feel and function) to the famous Cygnus Editor from the
old Amiga days?

I used to love CygnusEd on the Amiga and it was the one program I
really, really missed for a long time after I bid farewell to my
A3000T. I eventually discovered vim and gvim, and haven't looked
back. The learning curve is painful at first but the power is
undeniable.

Of course, a person's choice of editor can elicit responses of a
fervor not even matched by the most lively religous debate... :-)

Oh, yes. Who can forget the old Mac/AmigaDOS/Windows OS wars and the legal wrangling over who had the copyrights/patents for the window metaphor (of course, Xerox PARC released it to the public domain long before any of these guys got hold of it--always was a bit of a specious argument to me).

This thread caused me to wax nostalgic and wander out into the storeroom
at home to look at my old computer stash. And Lo! Before my eyes were
my beloved Amigas: A500, A600, A1000, A2000B, A3000 and an A3000T. I
also gazed wistfully at my Altair 8800, IMSAI 8080, Processor Tech
SOL-20 and Poly-88. Digging deeper found my old MicroVAX-1000e, my
LSI-11/73 and several old VT-100s and VT-220s.

Ah, memories! (cough, hack!) And lots of dust! :-D
