Why do you think you will need to compile the kernel module from
Adaptec's sources? Your SCSI controller is supported by the Fedora (and
upstream) kernel. And if you speak about following sources:

This is the source file for the Linux drivers version 6.2.10.

Filename: aic7xxx-6.2.10-source.tar.gz
Date: 20 Dec 2002
Size: 185904 bytes
Language: English

you will very certainly find, that they are not compatible with kernel
2.6 because of the age. Kernel 2.6.0 was release about nearly 1 year ago
now.

I suggest you better describe your problems with the kernel SCSI module
and maybe fill in a bugzilla ticket, so that issues can be fixed.
