We will need much more information on the system to even start speculating.
1. System specs, motherboard, CPU, RAM
2. Current kernel version number
3. any errors in the messages log?
4. What types of application is running on the machine, any errors in
the logs of the application ?

System specs: ASUS A7V333 motherboard, Athlon XP 1800+, 1Gig RAM
Kernel version 2.6.11-1.14_FC3
There seems to be an issue with this kernel. Downgrade to verify.
No error messages in logs.
What is running? Where do I begin?
qmail...apache...clamav....spamassassin....kde
anything else?
