FC3 soundcard problems.

Hi,
I recently did a clean install of FC3 on a work machine, and unfortunately I
can not get the onboard soundcard working no matter what I try. Worst case
I will try and disable it and buy a new soundcard, but I'd rather get the
current one working in any case.
The soundcard is an intel AC-97 Soundmax which uses the snd-intel8x0 alsa
module. I have put the snd-intel8x0 module in my hotplug blacklist, and yet
there is still no sounds. Alsa mixer, gnome volume control, etc all say
there is no mixer device on my system.
Has anyone encountered this, and does anyone have any solutions that will
solve this crisis?
Thanks.
