I had a similar question a few months ago. Someone made an excellent suggestion to just re-add a printer that had double-sided printing by default.

For example:
Printer 1: HP2200
Printer 2: HP2200_Duplex

I know it's a workaround instead of solution. If you find how to modify the printing parameters to allow for double sided printing, please share!
