Linda,

I'd try replacing the hub with a switch first.  If it works you'll be
ahead in throughput.  If it doesn't then replace the NIC and you'll
still be ahead.

Also, did you try forcing 100Mb/full duplex?  For grins, try setting
10/half, if your hub supports 10Mb.
