Thanks, got it to compile!
But, the instructions say:
Use option '--alsa' when running 'slmodemd' and ALSA conventional
device name ('hw:0' or 'hw:1' for instance). If modem support in
the kernel was enabled as module module 'snd-intel8x0m' should be loaded.
When using ALSA modem driver you don't need to load other modules ('slamr').
I did the following:
modprobe snd-intel8x0m
Now what? How do I figure out this "device name"?
Thanks and best wishes!
Hi, I got it compiled and installed. However, when I try
/usr/sbin/slmodemd
There is error ' can not open dev /dev/slmar0, no such file or device
I tried /sbin/modprobe slmar0 get error ' FATAL Module slmar0 found'
You want to "/sbin/modprobe slamr" (note no 0 at the end and spelling).
or /sbin/modprobe snd-intel8x0m 'FATAL Module snd-intel8x0m not found'
If you go this way, it's "/sbin/modprobe snd_intel8x0m" (note underscore, not hyphen).
Correct spelling of module names is critical!
How to get this work?
Thanks

Don't need to do anything about this. ALSA *is* the sound library for FC3.Thanks!
Btw, the instructions on compiling with ALSA mode say:
1. Configure your kernel and enable ALSA and ICH based modem support ( 'Device Drivers' -> 'Sound' -> 'Advanced Linux Sound Architecture' -> 'PCI devices' -> 'Intel i8x0/MX440; AMD768/8111 modems' ) .
Where is this "Device Driver" part in FC3? I could not see it on the GNOME
panel.
Thanks and best wishes!

OK, so I have one of those PCTEL modems in my

slmodemd works well but for smartlink chipset modems. For PCTEL it could work but only the ones that are supported by slmodem-2.9.X.
If so, any pointers?
I have it working just fine on my Thinkpad (last I
checked, a couple of
kernels ago). I compile with the ALSA drivers and
follow the
instructions.
Many thanks! I will try it out as you suggest.
Best wishes!
Many thanks!
