I'll make a few assumptions...  Are you running the latest kernel?
2.6.11-1.14_FC3 is it.  Well, apparently the new kernel may have
introduced some issues into USB - see bug #154690 as an example.  Though
admittedly it is somewhat in reverse of what you are experiencing, it
might be related.  According to one report, there is a new kernel in
updates-testing (2.6.11-1.20_FC3), that helped the original reporter of
that bug.  The other solution that I have been using is to simply revert
back one kernel when I plan to play with USB devices to
2.6.10-1.770_FC3....
