I'm trying to build a cluster using a DELL PowerVault 220S and two DELL
PE2650 servers with PERC 3/DC controllers. I've found some info on the Red Hat
site about a $500 per node Cluster Suite (plus $ for ES or AS subscription per
node) - but very little on how it is actually set up. Is there anyone out there
who has any experience with this sort of thing under FC ?
That clustering s/w is not available for FC. Its pretty good,
although its only a high availability cluster (if a node goes down,
its jobs will get picked up by another node). We use it at work, but
I have not configured it myself so I'm a little shakey on the exact
details but I seem to remember that you need SAN storage to make it
effective. IMO its quite expensive for what it is, but my company is
happy to shell the cash out for it.
Actually, the GFS code (I'm assuming that's what you're speaking
of...dlm, clvmd, etc.) is available for FC, but only as CVS source.
It isn't too hard to build and configure. And, no, you don't need SAN
(you can use gnbd devices).
Have I used it? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Is it fast? Yes. Is it
completely stable? No--but this is CVS stuff and that's to be expected.
