Not exactly, but the discussions of viruses inspired me to load clamav and indeed, on of the Progress binaries had the Linux.Rst.A virus, and most of /bin did also. Fortunately, rpm didn't get affected, so I can install that and it seems I'm gradually clearing things out and getting commands in /bin working.
