Different monitors have the same exact result. And at the moment I don't have another video card to try so that will simply have to wait (eBay to the rescue.) However why would it work fine at high resolutions running Win32 and now won't running X?
Try adding '1280x1024' to the 24 bit resolution in your xorg,its missing in your OP xorg.conf.And it doesn't hurt to check your refresh rates.
